To celebrate the end of the school year, Ms. Mellace’s Pre-AP Italian class at Manhasset Secondary School welcomed guest speaker and Italian-native, Silvana Dallao. Dallao is the grandmother of one of Manhasset’s sophomores.
Dallao presented a unique perspective on life in northern Italy and how the region of Trentino Alto Adige is influenced by German culture. Students asked questions and learned about the distinct part of Italy. Dallao even prepared an apple cake, a specialty item of the region, for students to try.
The presentation summarized the class’ final unit of study, which focused on identifying cultural differences between northern and southern Italy and how bordering countries impact Italian life.
