An employee at Manhasset KinderCare was arrested Thursday after she was allegedly seen slapping a young child in her care.

According to a Nassau County Police Department press release, Jeanine Sammis, 36, of Hewlett, was seen “slapping a 1-year-old female child on the back of her head” multiple times during September at the Northern Boulevard daycare center.

After KinderCare management learned of the alleged incident, Nassau County detectives began investigating the incidents and arrested Sammis on Thursday.

Sammis is charged with second degree attempted assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

A Manhasset KinderCare employee, who would not give her name, said Sammis was no longer employed at the facility but declined to comment further.

Sammis was arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead Oct. 24 and released on recognizance. She is due back in court Nov. 20.

Attempts to reach Sammis were unavailing.
