A Manhasset man was arrested for allegedly assaulting an elderly man in Great Neck Plaza on Sunday afternoon, following what police say was a heated verbal argument.

Police said that Daryl Wright, 39, allegedly became irrational and got into an argument with a 94-year-old man in front of Best Market at 40 Great Neck Road, before shoving him to the ground and fleeing.

The victim was taken to the hospital and treated for a fractured femur, police said.

Police said bystanders observed the incident and gave them a description of Wright and his vehicle.

Police also said that when Wright’s arrest was being processed, he was named in an unrelated fraud case.

Wright is charged with second-degree assault, third-degree grand larceny, possession of a forged instrument and five vehicle and traffic law charges.

A police spokesman said the grand larceny charge was related to a check issued in Wright’s name, but not by the victim.

Wright was arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Monday and has pleaded not guilty to the charges. His next court date is Wednesday.

Wright is being represented by the Legal Aid Society of Nassau County, according to court documents.
