Marching bands and color guards from schools across Long Island converged upon the Manhasset Secondary School on Sunday for the district’s fifth annual invitational competition.

Taking part in its first show of the 2015-16 school year, Manhasset did not rank in the scoring.

Garden City High School won first place in Group 2A, with Oceanside High School taking second, while Walt Whitman High School of Huntington placed highest in the larger ensemble Group 3A, Lindenhurst High School placing second and Hicksville High School finished third.

Manhasset will perform its “Star Wars” homage show during this weekend’s varsity football game against Elmont at 2 p.m. and compete Oct. 18 in the New York state championship show at Mitchell Field in Uniondale, beginning at 12:20 p.m.

The band is also scheduled to perform at Bergenfield, East Brunswick and Old Bridge high schools in New Jersey and at the eastern national competition in Dover, Del., and during the school district’s homecoming on Oct. 24 and Manhasset’s annual Memorial Day parade in May.
