Spring has sprung, and with it comes the annual SCA Fair sponsored by Manhasset’s School Community Association.
The fair will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday in the Munsey Park Elementary School yard, complete with carnival rides, game booths, musical and dance performances by Manhasset school district students and martial arts demonstrations from local studios.
Organized by chairwomen Claudine Fini and Annie Yeung, the 67th annual SCA Fair will also offer a new attraction: bubble soccer.
Owned by GameTruck Long Island, bubble soccer will be for children 8 years old and older and will be played on a turf mat covering the school’s side parking lot.
Fini said players will be in a plastic bubble from their head to their knees and will attempt to score goals while also being allowed to bump into fellow players like bumper cars.
“It’s the beginning of spring, so the kids can finally get out and enjoy the fresh air,” Fini said. “I think it’s unique in that there are fairs all over, but this one is pretty much exclusively the students from Munsey Park, Shelter Rock and the secondary school. It’s one day where they all come together and get to see each other and blow off some steam.”
The fair will also offer a number of food booths, Fini said, including a Greek booth and a Chinese booth. Superintendent Vincent Butera said he will also be assisting with hot dog sales.
Unlimited ride bracelets are for sale online in advance of the fair for $35 for a single bracelet and $65 for two.
The day of the fair, bracelets will cost $50.
Bracelets will also be for sale Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Raindew Pharmacy at 465 Plandome Road in Manhasset.
Parking will be restricted within the Village of Munsey Park, Mayor Frank DeMento said, and village officials will hang no parking signs along the village streets before the fair as they have in previous years.
The fair, which serves as one of the SCA’s annual fundraisers, will raise money for the district’s extended extras program, which provides classes before and after school, as well as various school organizations.
Recently, the SCA also contributed to the launch of the district’s school quality survey of staff, parents and students.
