As a follow up to previous meetings held on the $3 million Manorhaven Boulevard project, another public input session will take place on Thursday, Nov. 7 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. These meetings are helpful for gaining input from residents who attended to ensure that planning incorporates their comments.
Nassau County Legislator Delia DeRiggi-Whitton and representatives from the county’s Department of Public Works will present revised plans as well as additional considerations developed since the last meeting in June.
“As a devout tree hugger, the beautiful canopy of trees lining Manorhaven Boulevard has always been a concern for me with this project and residents echoed my sentiments during the first public meeting,” DeRiggi-Whitton said. “We have come up with an excellent solution that will only require the removal of diseased or trees that are past their maturity.”
Basic needs for Port’s second main street include repaving the entire road, installing handicap ramps at every corner, clean and/or replace catch basins, and replacing curbs and sidewalks where needed. Locations of crosswalks and bus stops will also be assessed, as will the addition of one or two bus shelters.
The village’s project committee, which is chaired by Deputy Mayor Priscilla von Roeschlaub, is working on aesthetic details like nostalgic lampposts, artistic benches, plantings and other details that will further enhance the Port’s second main street.
“As a former resident of Port Washington, I have always loved Manorhaven Boulevard,” DeRiggi-Whitton added. “I cannot wait to see it when it is all spruced up when the project is completed.
All residents of Port Washington are encouraged to attend the Nov. 7 meeting, which will take place at Manorhaven Village Hall located at 33 Manorhaven Blvd., to share their thoughts and suggestions.
