Residents Forward is teaming up with Manorhaven for a spring bulb planting and fall cleanup event. Volunteers do not need to be residents of Manorhaven. All that is needed is the desire to make Port more beautiful and to be available from 9 to 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27.

Plants and bulbs, work gloves, garden tools and garbage bags will be provided. Volunteers are asked to wear work clothes, a hat and sunscreen and bring a sense of community and a can-do attitude.

During the hour-long effort, hundreds of spring bulbs and mums will be planted, sidewalks will be swept and litter picked up. Volunteers will also enjoy live music and complimentary refreshments.

There is no need to register in advance. Everyone should meet at 9 a.m. the gazebo on the right side of Manorhaven Boulevard just before Ashwood Road. Volunteers may park in the Manorhaven Village Hall parking lot at 33 Manorhaven Blvd. or along side streets. Children are invited to help, but they must come with adult supervision.

“I’m so pleased that Residents Forward is eager to help Manorhaven look more beautiful,” Manorhaven Mayor Jim Avena said. “The efforts they organize with volunteers through other parts of Port have resulted in wonderful bursts of color throughout the spring and summer. We’re looking forward to seeing the same beautiful result in our village next spring.”

For volunteers looking to fulfill community service requirements, everyone will receive certificates of Community Service signed by Residents Forward and the Village of Manorhaven. Contact Residents at 767-4191 with questions.
