Republican Jack Martins was named a partner at Harris Beach, a law firm with ties to the Nassau County Democrats.

Jack Martins, the Republican who lost his two most recent runs for office to Democrats, has been named a partner at Harris Beach – a firm that includes top county Democrats who helped defeat him in November’s county executive election.

Thomas J. Garry, a member of the Uniondale-based firm, also serves as vice chairman of the Nassau Democratic Committee.

Garry chaired Nassau County Executive Laura Curran’s transition team following her win over Martins.

“Jack’s background in the public and private sectors gives him a unique perspective to advise clients in strategically navigating their operational challenges on Long Island and across New York state,” Garry said in a news release.

The county attorney, Jared Kasschau, also worked with the firm before resigning to take his new position.

Congressman Tom Suozzi, who beat Martins in a 2016 congressional race, is of counsel at the Manhattan-based Harris Beach office.

Martins has served in both the public and private sector.

Martins was elected to the state Senate in 2010.

Before his election to the Senate, he served as Mineola mayor.

Martins co-founded the law firm Martins & Silva before entering elected office. The practice focused on construction, land use and zoning, and commercial real estate.

“I have spent the better part of the past 20 years promoting and fostering growth for our Long Island communities and our regional economy,” Martins said in the news release. “Whether leveraging private sector initiatives, downtown revitalization and transit-oriented development opportunities, advancing quality health care, or meeting the challenges of energy independence, Harris Beach appealed to me because of their statewide platform and deep strength in each of these important regional challenges.”

Martins will primarily counsel on construction and real estate matters, according to the firm.

He will help clients see their projects though completion from the initial planning stages.

His appointment will be effective on Monday.
