Mineola High School has won the College Board AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award. Mineola High School is recognized for expanding young women’s access to AP Computer Science Principals, an introductory college-level computing course.
Out of the 20,000 institutions that offer AP courses, a total of 1,119 schools were acknowledged for their work toward equal gender representation during the 2019-2020 school year. Mineola High School is one of only 831 schools to earn the award in the category of AP Computer Science Principals.
To receive a College Board AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award, schools had to achieve 50 percent or higher female representation in one of the two AP computer science courses, or have the percentage of female computer science examinees meet or exceed that of the school’s female population.
This marks the second consecutive year Mineola High School has earned this designation. The school takes pride in achieving a high female representation while closing a gender gap between students.
