The Mineola Board of Trustees voted to alter a number of parking restrictions on Horton Highway, Wellington Road and Marcellus Road between First Street and Garfield Avenue at their Nov. 6 work meeting.
The changes are made in an area very close to NYU Winthrop Hospital.
The changes were announced at the public meeting immediately following the work meeting by Mineola Mayor Scott Strauss.
“The board adjusted some of our parking regulations,” Strauss said. “We’re doing everything we can to work with our neighbors and our businesses to help ease the anxiety that may have caused this.”
On the west side, two-hour parking will be implemented on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., except for Sundays and marked holidays. No parking will be allowed in the areas on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Village Clerk Joseph Scalero said the time shifts were made in the area after the village board heard complaints from residents in the area who said that they no longer wanted to have to go out to move their cars at 7:00 a.m.
“They asked for that morning change,” Scalero said.
Parking is a common source of discussion at village meetings, especially after the village recently hired new parking enforcement staff.
Scalero said in a previous interview that issues of understaffing have led to less code enforcement and regulations like metered parking on Saturdays have always existed in the village.
“The Saturday rules have always been in place. We haven’t changed those,” Strauss said at a previous meeting.
The streets’ western and eastern sides saw the implementation of “No Stopping Here to Corner” orders on the north curb line of First Street north and from the south curb line of Garfield Avenue south, both for “approximately 25 feet.”
The trustees also approved removing a loading zone at 132 East Second Street and installing a curb cut at 179 Cleveland Ave.
The Mineola Board of Trustees, which meets publicly every Wednesday, is next scheduled to meet on Nov. 13 and 20, both at 7:30 p.m.
