The Mineola Union Free School District has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education Award from the NAMM Foundation.

The NAMM Foundation recognizes communities for outstanding efforts of teachers, administrators, parents, students and community leaders for making music part of a well-rounded education.

“The title of this award says it all, the Mineola Union Free School District community supports excellence in music education,” said Supervisor of Fine and Performing Arts Joseph Owen. “Our students benefit from the support that music education receives from our Board of Education, administration, teachers, parents and community members.”

To qualify for the designation, the Mineola Union Free School District answered questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program and community music-making programs.

This marks the 12th year the district has received the national recognition.
