For the 11th consecutive year, Mineola Union Free School District has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from the NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education. The Best Communities Music Education designation is awarded to districts that serve as a model for other districts and demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students.
“This award is significant in that it recognizes that the value that the entire Mineola School District community places on music,” said District Director for Music and Fine Art Joseph Owens. “Music plays an essential role in both individual development and community engagement. We are all fortunate to be in a community with such rich musical experiences. I am thankful for the leadership in our district that so genuinely supports music and the arts.”
To qualify for the Best Communities designation, Mr. Owens answered detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program and community music-making programs. Responses were verified with school officials and reviewed by the Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas.
