Temple Israel Players is busy putting the finishing touches on this year’s spring performance–My Fair Lady. Performances will be held on Saturday, April 6 at 8:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 7 at 1 p.m. at Temple Israel of Great Neck.
Lerner & Loewe’s “My Fair Lady,” often referred to as “one of the most beloved musicals of all time” and as “the perfect musical,” will have The Players travelling back in time to the early 20th century in London. The musical tells the story of Eliza Doolittle (played by Kim Kaiman), a young Cockney flower seller who meets Professor Henry Higgins (played by Mark Cwern), an upper class, world-famous phonetics expert who is determined to transform her into “a lady.”
The story weaves many themes throughout and is enhanced by Broadway classics such as “I Could Have Danced All Night,” “The Rain in Spain,” and “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly?” This wonderful musical, appropriate for all ages, will be directed by two well-known Great Neck names: JoJo Conley (Stage Director) and Debbie Tartell (Music Director). Both women have worked with many students in the Great Neck Schools over the last 28 years and are excited to once again bring their talents to this unique group at Temple Israel.
Temple Israel Players is a performing troupe with members aged 8 to 88 that was established over 40 years ago by a few members at Temple Israel of Great Neck. One of its founding members, Eileen Putterman, continues to be actively involved. Working alongside her as co-producers are Ron Klempner, Mark Putter, Lois Sazer and Debbie Volk.
