The New Hyde Park Lady Gladiators defeated the Great Neck North Lady Blazers 16-2 in lacrosse on Thursday afternoon, led by Krysta Sollecito and Geena Gardella.
Sollecito recorded four goals and four assists while Gardella had four goals and three assists.
Ariella Lerner and Carly Campbell were the goal scorers for Great Neck North.
New Hyde Park head coach Dom Gagnon said their transition game was strong and it made a difference in the win against Great Neck North.
“We place a lot of emphasis on moving the ball up the field and making sure our outlet passes in the transition is on cue,” Gagnon said. “It starts from a defensive perspective. If we can hold them on defense, we will have a better chance of moving the ball up the field to our offense and getting in a position for us to score.”
Great Neck North head coach Kristen Corrigan said New Hyde Park’s transition game was too much for them to handle.
“We needed a better transition in the midfield,” Corrigan said. “New Hyde Park did a really good job of working together and making connections. They caught our defense off guard.”
In the first half, New Hyde Park outscored Great Neck North 9-2 and outshot them 13-3.
Sollecito paced New Hyde Park’s attack with four goals while Gardella recorded a hat trick.
Alexandra Petricca scored the game’s first goal with 22:42 left in the first half to give New Hyde Park a 1-0 lead.
Sollecito gave New Hyde Park a 2-0 lead 30 seconds later.
Great Neck North answered back with a goal by Lerner at 20:16.
Mackenzie Griffin gave New Hyde Park a 3-1 lead with 19:12 remaining in the first half.
Sollecito connected with her second goal of the game at 14:56 to give New Hyde Park a three goal lead.
27 seconds later, Gardella’s goal gave New Hyde Park a 5-1 lead and prompted Great Neck North to call a timeout.
Sollecito recorded a hat trick with 13:22 left in the first half to give New Hyde Park a five goal lead.
Gardella scored her second goal of the game to put New Hyde Park up by six with 9:21 remaining in the first half.
Campbell’s goal at 8:18 cut New Hyde Park’s lead to five.
Sollecito’s fourth goal of the game at 2:52 allowed New Hyde Park to take back the six goal lead.
Gardella completed the hat trick with 26.9 seconds left in the first half and New Hyde Park took a commanding 9-2 lead into halftime.
In the second half, New Hyde Park outscored Great Neck North 7-0 and outshot them 10-3.
Gardella’s fourth goal of the game came at 22:16 and gave New Hyde Park a 10-2 lead.
Joanna Mauceri gave New Hyde Park a 11-2 lead with 15:32 left to play in the second half.
Gabriella LaSala scored with 14 minutes remaining to give New Hyde Park a ten goal lead.
Sophia Leeds gave New Hyde Park a 13-2 lead with 12:56 left to play.
Jules Wesler’s goal with nine minutes remaining gave New Hyde Park a 12 goal lead.
Emily Suh scored with 4:25 left to go to extend New Hyde Park’s lead to 13.
Gina Pepe scored with 3:33 left to play as New Hyde Park went on to win 16-2.

Floral Park defeated East Meadow 15-14. Maeve McGovern led Floral Park with six goals and two assists. McGovern’s sixth goal with 15 seconds left in the fourth quarter forced overtime and Kelly Ventura, who recorded a goal and two assist, scored the game winner. Floral Park goalkeeper Meghan Douglas stopped 11 shots.
Hicksville defeated Roslyn 16-5. Kerrin Heuser led Hicksville with five goals and two assists. Molly Spencer led Roslyn with a hat trick.
Manhasset defeated Farmingdale 17-4. Madison Rielly led Manhasset with a hat trick and three assists. Madison Miller and Sarah Weppler each recorded a hat trick for Manhasset as well.
Massapequa defeated Port Washington 13-9. Alexa Gentile led Massapequa with four goals. Cara Scanio added a hat trick and four assists while Massapequa goalkeeper Sophia Cardello recorded 12 saves. Rachel Rosen and Allie Hoffman each led Port Washington with a hat trick.

Great Neck South defeated West Hempstead 9-7. Jordana Ovadia led Great Neck South with four goals. Hannah Kareff added two goals for Great Neck South while goalkeeper Rebecca Bressler recorded 13 saves.
Malverne/East Rockaway defeated Sewanhaka 9-5. Hope Matthews led Malverne/East Rockaway with a hat trick. Alessia Drevnyak scored twice for Malverne/East Rockaway while goalkeeper Kristine Chinchilla made 13 saves. Kylie Woo led Sewanhaka with four goals while goalkeeper Jennifer Alvarenga stopped 10 shots.
Wheatley defeated Hempstead 22-0. Jolie Katz led Wheatley with seven goals and an assist while Sami Rothstein added a hat trick and 10 assists. Micki Wain recorded a hat trick and an assist while Wheatley goalkeeper Yvonne Kalpakis recorded eight saves.
Herricks defeated Bellmore JFK 18-9. Chase McGahan led Herricks with six goals and two assists while Jessica Hobday added four goals.
