The 2017 New Hyde Park Memorial High School yearbook publication Lance was awarded its third consecutive gold medalist critique from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association.

This marks the first time the publication has won three straight gold awards from the national journalistic competition sponsored by Columbia University. This ranks the Lance as one of the best yearbooks in the country.

“To win three golds in a row is a tremendous achievement,” adviser Andy Yen said. “I know how rigorous the judging rubric is, and this success is a direct reflection of the type of students in our yearbook program. Working with these talented young individuals has been and continues to be one of the most rewarding aspects of my job.”

Last year’s success serves to remind the current staff to make their yearbook their own. Editor-in-Chief Caroline Bak said, “Working with the staff last year allowed me to realize the impact a yearbook can have on people as well as how it can bring them together. I cannot wait to see the reaction when we tell our own story.”
