Trustees Kevin Fitzgerald and Archie Cheng are running unopposed in their bids for re-election to the Floral Park village board in Tuesday’s election.

Fitzgerald is running for his fourth two-year term and Cheng for his second.

They are both running on the Citizens Party line.

Cheng, who has been a Floral Park resident since 1978, was appointed as a trustee in February 2016 after the death of Trustee James Rhatigan.

Cheng was previously the president of both the Floral Park-Bellerose and Sewanhaka school boards.

Fitzgerald was appointed to the village board in 2011 and was made deputy mayor following Rhatigan’s death.

He first got involved in village government as a member of the Third Track Task Force, fighting the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s plan for a third Long Island Rail Road track in the mid-2000s.

The village later reactivated the committee when the MTA revived the third-track proposal and tapped Cheng to lead it.

In the 2016 election, Fitzgerald and Cheng both ran on their opposition to the third track and to the video casino proposed for Belmont Park.

Fitzgerald previously told Blank Slate Media the board works well because of the different perspectives of the trustees.

“There’s a sense of teamwork and openness where if you have an opinion you can freely express it and can have meaningful … discussions regardless of what your opinion is,” Fitzgerald said.

There are three polling places. District 1 votes at the Reliance Fire House, Districts 2 and 3 vote at the Recreation/Pool Building and District 4 votes at the Atlantic Avenue Fire House.
