Four hospitals on the North Shore were ranked among the top 15 hospitals in the New York metropolitan area, according to U.S. News and World Report.
St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn ranked No. 6, with NYU Winthrop Hospital in Mineola close behind at No. 8.
The regional ranking included hospitals across Long Island, New York City, Westchester and northern New Jersey.
Ruth E. Hennessey, chief administrative officer of St. Francis Hospital, said the ranking is a “true testament to the emphasis our staff places on providing excellence in patient care.”
“We take pride in offering state-of-the-art procedures in a wide range of cardiac and noncardiac specialties,” Hennessey said in a statement.
NYU Winthrop Hospital was also ranked nationally in pediatric diabetes and endocrinology by U.S. News and World Report.
John F. Collins, president and CEO of NYU Winthrop, said the hospital is proud to be recognized among the area’s best.
“Every day patients of all ages turn to us for quality care, and we are committed to raising the bar for all of our medical specialties to be recognized on a national level,” Collins said in a statement.
Two Northwell hospitals in the area were also ranked high.
North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset was listed at No. 11 and Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park was listed at No. 13.
Cohen Children’s Medical Center, which shares a campus with Long Island Jewish Medical Center, was nationally ranked No. 8 in pediatrics.
Northwell spokesman Jason Molinet said Northwell “strives for the best patient care and clinical expertise.”
“We’re honored that Long Island Jewish Medical Center has been recognized as a high performer in nephrology and urology while North Shore University Hospital has been named high performing in neurology & neurosurgery and geriatrics,” Molinet added in a statement.
Northwell’s Huntington Hospital was listed as No. 16.
Stony Brook Hospital was listed as No. 14.
The No. 1 ranking in the New York area went to NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.
U.S. News and World Report defines a best regional hospital as one that offers a full range of services.
A “best regional hospital” earns its title by either being nationally ranked in one of 12 specialties, having three or more ratings of high performance in a specialty or ranking in the nine best hospitals for procedures and conditions.
Specialty hospitals, such as children’s hospitals or those that focus on a specific field, are not ranked in the best regional hospitals list as the intent to to find hospitals that excel across a wide-range of procedures, according to U.S. News and World Report’s website.
Correction: a previous version of this article incorrectly described that NYU Winthrop Hospital was ranked number one nationally in pediatrics. NYU Winthrop was nationally ranked for a pediatric specialty, listed 41st for pediatric diabetes and endocrinology, not for overall pediatrics.
