The Great Neck Library’s Nominating Committee last week formally endorsed three candidates for two Board of Trustees seats and one Nominating Committee seat.

Varda Solomon and Rebecca Miller were endorsed by the Nominating Committee for the open trustee seats, library officials said.

Solomon is seeking to retain her trustee seat in October’s election, while Miller is seeking to replace a current trustee, Josie Pizer.

Holly Coscetta, the administrative assistant to the library director, Kathy Giotsas, said Pizer informed the committee that she did not intend to run for re-election.

Seats on the Board of Trustees  are for four-year terms beginning January 2017.

Efforts to reach Solomon, Miller  and Pizer for comment were unavailing.

Michael Katz, who currently sits on the Nominating Committee, will not be running for re-election.

Coscetta said candidates cannot run consecutive terms on the Nominating Committee.

The committee endorsed Patrick McDonnell to succeed Katz, library officials said.

The Nominating Committee seat is for a three-year term beginning January 2017.

Efforts to reach McDonnell for comment were unavailing.

Library officials said that the deadline for independent nomination petitions for the three open seats is Aug. 15.

Petition forms to run for election are available at the director’s office at the Station Branch at 26 Great Neck Road in Great Neck.

Candidates interested in running must get 100 signatures from Great Neck Library card holders in order to submit a petition, Coscetta said.

Library officials said to vote in the Oct. 31 election, voters must be at least 18 years old and either be registered with the Nassau County Board of Elections or a Great Neck Library cardholder.

Biographical information for the candidates, library officials said, would be available in the September-December library newsletter.
