A home health aide to a 90-year-old woman in Garden City Park was arrested after allegedly preventing the woman from calling 911 after a radiator fell on her leg, Nassau County Police say.

The aide, Tasha Smalls, 32, of Huntington Station, allegedly refused to let police enter the home when the officers stated they needed to check on the well-being of the elderly woman, according to police.

When the 90-year-old woman opened the door for the officers, Smalls “obstructed the officers from entering and preventing them from their course of duties,” police said.

Police said an investigation concluded that the aide grabbed the phone from the elderly woman when she tried to call 911 to report an injury from a radiator falling on her leg.

The woman was transported to a local hospital for medial treatment, police said.

Smalls is charged with endangering the welfare of an incompetent person, endangering the welfare of elderly, obstruction of government administration and fourth degree criminal mischief.

Smalls will be arraigned on Thursday in the First District Court in Hempstead.
