New Hyde Park Road School students in grades 3-6 provided lunch and sweet sentiments to local folks in need on Valentine’s Day.

Organized by fifth-grade teacher Christine Margro, the school’s fifth-annual Made With Love event brought students together to make and assemble 200 lunches for distribution at the Mary Brennan INN in Hempstead, which provides essential services to assist those challenged by hunger, homelessness and profound poverty.

Sixth-grade students made turkey and cheese and ham and cheese sandwiches, and the school’s fifth-graders packed them into a lunch bag along with fruit, a bottled water and a granola bar. The lunch bags were beautifully decorated by fourth-grade students. Each bag also included a sweet Valentine’s Day message written by third-grade students.

According to Ms. Margro, the supplies were purchased thanks to a volleyball game fundraiser held at the school and the generous donations of parents. She commended the students as they made and packed the lunches, and reminded them that they were making a difference.
