A 57-year-old man suffered serious injuries after being struck by a cement truck at a New Hyde Park intersection on Tuesday, Nassau County police said.

The man, whose identity was not disclosed, was taken to an area hospital by a Nassau County police ambulance, police said.

A police spokesman said the man was listed in critical condition as of Wednesday morning.

Detectives said a 30-year-old driving a 2016 cement truck traveling southbound on Covert Avenue at the intersection of Jericho Turnpike struck the man at 10:52 a.m. as he crossed the street.

The driver stopped and called the police, police said.

“Detectives report no apparent criminality with the accident at this time,” police said in a statement.

The police spokesman said the driver was tested for alcohol and none was detected.

The vehicle was given a brake and safety inspection at the scene and released to the driver, police said.

The intersection was closed for about an hour to clean up debris from the accident, the police spokesman said.
