Readers Write: Jaclyn O’Donohue for Floral Park-Bellerose School Board of Education,

The Island Now

As a mother of three children in Floral Park, I know how much work it is just to get everyone to where they need to be on time, whether it’s school, sports, or social activities.

I feel a sense of success in doing just that. There are only so many hours in a day, and yet my friend Jaclyn O’Donohue, who also has three children the same age as mine, seems to manage not only that but a whole lot more; and manages it all well!

I met Jackie at Wednesday’s Mothers Club shortly after my family moved into Floral Park in 2014.

Soon after moving here, my son had an allergic reaction to medication and ended up in the hospital. Not only did she show concern, but she even had food sent right to my house, so I had one less thing to worry about.

Jackie has an amazing ability to step in and lend a hand and take charge when needed. In the years since that time I’ve witnessed her as president of Wednesday Mothers for two years, help organize Liz’s Day, lead her son’s Cub Scout Den and currently also lead her daughter’s Girl Scout Troop.

When Jackie told me she was running for a seat on the Floral Park-Bellerose School Board of Education, I couldn’t think of a better candidate.

As someone who has spent her whole life in Floral Park, attending JLC herself as a child and now having her own children going there, she has experienced this town’s educational offerings full circle. She is an organized, efficient, strong, natural-born leader.

She is not afraid to stand up for what she believes to be in the best interest of not only her own children but the community at large. She looks at issues from multiple angles, researches, analyzes and reaches out to anyone and everyone to get a solution that she fully supports and can explain clearly.

Jackie has a good heart and a strong voice. I’ve witnessed Jackie’s leadership in both formal and informal situations over the years.

She believes in being fair and playing by the rules. To me, that is exactly the kind of person we need as a Trustee on our Board of Education; someone who will work tirelessly until her objectives have been met and the job gets done.

I urge you to join me on May 18th and vote for Jaclyn O’Donohue for Trustee on the FPBSD School Board!
