Nichole Allen, a longtime administrator at Sewanhaka High School, has been named principal.

The Sewanhaka Central High School District Board of Education made the appointment at a  meeting on March 23. Allen had served for eight months as interim principal, a role which school officials say she excelled in.

Allen is no stranger to the task of overseeing and supporting more than 1,600 students every day. She served as assistant principal of Sewanhaka High School from 2007 to 2020. In July, she was named interim principal following the departure of former Principal Christopher Salinas, who left the position after being denied tenure by the Board of Education.

Allen is co-creator of the GRAD (Girls: Ready, Able, and Determined) Mentoring Program and a coordinator for DASA (Dignity for All Students Act). She is also a member of the district’s Wellness Committee, AIS Committee, Excellence and Equity Committee, Articulation Committee and Eligibility Committee.

Before coming to Sewanhaka High School, Allen served as an assistant principal in the Uniondale school district and as the chairperson of the social studies department in the Westbury school district.
