Rose Lowe came to the United States 42 years ago from Jamaica to join the rest of her family.

She has lived in New Hyde Park for the past 26, where she has given back to her local community by getting involved in various clubs and organizations.

Lowe will be recognized for her volunteerism and charitable efforts as part of the 25th annual May W. Newburger Women’s Roll of Honor at a breakfast next Wednesday at the Clubhouse at Harbor Links in Port Washington.

Lowe is one of 12 women the town is honoring.

“I am proud to honor these outstanding women for their incredible service to North Hempstead,” Town Clerk Wayne Wink said in a statement. “Each of these women reflects the best that our communities have to offer and we are proud to honor them for their work.”

Lowe worked full time at JPMorgan Chase while pursuing her bachelor’s degree in accounting, from Brooklyn College, and her master’s degree in finance, from Pace University.

During her career, Lowe also worked for Bank of America.

She was an active volunteer at both corporations.

At Bank of America, she was the representative for philanthropic organizations including Computer of Youth Project, Baby Buggy and New York Cares.

At JPMorgan Chase, she was a team captain and facilitator for various “Global Day of Service” projects.

Lowe retired early to become a primary caregiver for her husband, Steve Abrahamson.

Abrahamson is a Vietnam War veteran who has Parkinson’s disease.

Since retiring, Lowe continues to serve her community through different clubs and organizations.

She is currently the treasurer of the Joy Fu Chinese Senior Club, a board member of the Lakeville Estates Civic Association, an English as a Second Language tutor for Literacy Nassau, and a volunteer at the Chinese Center on Long Island.

Lowe said she is “humbled and honored to be a part of the family of these phenomenal honorees.”
