The Nuzzi Field basketball court, which village officials made ID-required last year after they said fights were breaking out, has been converted into a badminton, volley ball and pickle ball court.

The new available sports are more “harmonious” with the kids park attached to it, Mayor Lawrence Montreuil said.

In addition to the new courts, there are two hopscotch courts drawn on for kids, one in the shape of a crocodile the other in the shape of a frog.

“We’re seeing a lot more families coming back, using the kiddie park as intended,” Montreuil said.

There are also two full-size basketball courts at Memorial Park, Montreuil said.

The village announced the newly available games and equipment for residents in the spring newsletter.

The sport equipment is free for residents who show a driver’s license or Village ID card to prove residency.

In August, village officials made it a policy to require residents to show a form of identification to use the then basketball courts.

The park, which borders Floral Park, was said to be causing a disturbance to residents.

Police were called three times, and found the residents to be from areas such as South Floral Park, Elmont and Franklin Square, Trustee Rich Pallisco said at an August meeting.

“They just came here to cause problems,” Pallisco said.

Other North Shore villages have similar restrictions on village parks.

Floral Park requires a “leisure pass” to enter its residents only pool and recreation center.

Great Neck Park District requires a membership pass, only available to park district residents, to enter any of its parks or attend any programs.

Village of East Hills restricts use of its park and pool to village residents and business owners.
