After working for years on the corporate side of audiology, Aviva Tilson wanted to get back to working directly with patients. So she purchased the Port Washington Hearing Center in May. On Monday, she opened the new and improved center, now called I Love Hearing, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
“Port Washington is a very tight-knit community and the people are very supportive,” she said. “We wanted to be a part of that and offer the best hearing health care in the area.”
Among those in attendance were members of the Port Washington Chamber of Commerce. Tilson said they had been a big help in getting her business off the ground.
“Bobbie Polay, especially, she’s wonderful,” Tilson said. “She has been so accommodating, so warm and welcoming.”
Although the center has been open since May, the ribbon-cutting commemorated the completion of a renovation that made the center look like a medical spa, which Tilson said she believes will be more relaxing for patients.
In a previous interview, Tilson talked about how she was going through a rough patch in her life and how that spurred her to purchase the business in Port Washington. She said owning her own practice was “empowering” and felt that it made her a good role model for her four children.
In addition to the location at 191 Main St. in Port Washington, I Love Hearing has opened a second location on Madison Avenue in New York City. Tilson said that her and her employees’ ability to connect with patients is the explanation for I Love Hearing’s success.
“We do everything we can to ensure patients’ hearing needs are met,” she said. “We go above and beyond to make sure all the patients walk out satisfied.”
I Love Hearing provides a number of services, including hearing testing, hearing aid fitting and repair, tinnitus therapy, hearing protection and auditory therapy and rehabilitation.
Tilson said she enjoyed the ribbon-cutting ceremony and would take part in Chamber of Commerce functions.
“It’s a pleasure to be involved, and look I forward to being a part of future events,” she said.
