Great Neck South 10th grader Hayden Edelson and senior Vishal Bhaya, and Great Neck North 10th grader Daniel Hanover earned “Top 10” honors at DECA’s 67th annual International Career Development Conference in Anaheim, Calif., held April 24-27.  The three Great Neck students were among only 14 New York State students to achieve such recognition among “Top 10” finalists in over 50 individual and team competitive categories.

The categories each winning student competed in were:

Hayden Edelson – apparel and accessories marketing series

Vishal Bhaya – human resources management series

Daniel Hanover – accounting applications series

During the school year, approximately 120,000 of DECA’s 200,000 nationwide student members take part in the organization’s competitive events program, competing for local, regional and state titles. The competitions simulate real-life business scenarios and test students’ academic understanding and skills development. The top state and provincial winners put their talents to the test during the program’s final round of competition in Anaheim.

Thirty-two (32) Great Neck South and fourteen (14) Great Neck North students earned the right at New York State finals to make the trip to Anaheim to compete against over 10,000 American and international students in the DECA International Career Development Conference.

In addition to career-based competition, DECA members engaged in leadership academies and networking opportunities with over 60 internationally recognized businesses.

DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management. DECA enhances the preparation for college and careers by providing co-curricular programs that integrate into classroom instruction, apply learning, connect to business and promote competition.
