3 GN Jewish LL teams compete in tourney

Three teams from Great Neck Jewish Community Little League, which services Queens and Long Island,recently competed in the championships in the different divisions.

Great Neck-C (4th graders) of the minor league Division “A” made the championship game at St. Johns University by beating the previously undefeated Young Israel of Plainview team in the semi-finals game by a score of 10-5 behind strong pitching from Noam Silverman and Jacob Setton, and behind powerful hitting from Ben Basaleli, Ethan Abizadeh, Michael Cohen and Ethan Rutta.

They lost the championship game to MJC by a score of 8-4 in a hard fought game.

Ethan Hourizadeh and Matthew Abada each hit home runs for Great Neck.

Great Neck-A (2nd graders) of the minor league Division “B” made the Championship against 3rd and 4th graders by winning their last six games of the season. The won the championship game 8-5 by beating AY-A of Queens, with major contributions from literally each and every player.

Great Neck – C (6th graders) of the major league Division “A” made the championship game with two dramatic come-from-behind victories in the quarterfinals and semi-finals.

The championship game went into extra-innings after another stirring comeback to tie the score 2-2 after six innings.

After eight innings, the game was declared a tie with both teams anointed as co-champions.

Making clutch RBI hits were Jonah Sobel and Joshua Peyser, and the pitching trio of Jacob Rosen, Michael Schatz, and Mitchell Hutt preserved the tie with a combined 21 strikeouts!
