About 400 Roslyn PSEG customers were hit by a temporary power outage last Thursday as the company worked to repair two utility poles on Glen Cove Road struck by a truck, a PSEG Long Island spokeswoman said.
The accident occurred at 9:28 a.m. when a box truck slammed into two poles at the intersection of Main Drive and Glen Cove Road, initially causing an outage for only five customers, said PSEG Long Island’s Amy Di Leo.
The crash caused very minor injuries, an officer at the scene said.
Nassau County Police shut down the northbound section of the road beginning at Red Ground Road as PSEG worked to repair the poles.
To safely fix them, the workers had to de-energize the line at 10:30 a.m., inducing a 13-minute outage for 400 customers spanning from Harbor Hill Road to Northern Boulevard, Di Leo said.
“Whenever the linemen are working on a line the area needs to be de-energized because regardless of whether it’s broken or frayed the energy coming through is quite potent,” she said.
The initial five customers hit by the outage were still without power when PSEG restored it and one pole was beginning to fall, Di Leo said.
PSEG induced another outage between 11:03 a.m. and 1:01 p.m. to completely replace the poles, she said.
Replacing the poles in two hours was a quick turnaround, she said.
