The $60 million East Williston 2018-19 school budget was approved 277-132 on Tuesday.

Incumbent Trustees Robert V. Fallarino and Leonard Hirsch were re-elected with 326 and 313 votes, respectively.

Both men were running unopposed.

The budget is a 2.95 percent increase from the current budget.

It raises the tax levy by 2.48 percent.

Hirsch said in a previous interview that he is proud that the board has approved a budget within the tax cap every year since the law was introduced.

He said going forward safety and security enhancements are at the forefront of his goals.

The 2018-19 budget includes $300,000 for security enhancements.

Other budget highlights include continuing the Peru and Italy exchange trips and expanding the social science research program at the Wheatley School.

There are also STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) improvements such as expanding the Chromebook one-to-one initiative to grades two through 12, expanding opportunities at Willets Road School’s innovation lab and installing 40 interactive flat panel boards at all three schools.

This will be Hirsch’s third term on the board.

Hirsch, a Roslyn Heights resident, has one child at Willets Road School and one at the North Side School.

Efforts to reach Fallarino were unavailing.
