Alagna has earned job

The Island Now

Last April as the newly appointed mayor, one of my first official duties was my appointment of Trustee Beth Swenson-Dowd as associate justice.

To fill her position, Barbara Alagna was appointed. This year although usually not an election year, Barbara must run to complete the one year left in the four-year term.

Both Doreen and I have a long history with Barbara and can attest to Barbara’s competence, experience and knowledge, probably more than anyone who has written in support of her candidacy.

Barbara was recruited to work as secretary to the board when Doreen became mayor. Having worked with Barbara at Mercy Medical Center .she knew of her work ethic and efficiency. Barbara was the person Doreen wanted as part of her team.

After much persuasion Barbara accepted the challenge and for six years worked as secretary to the board and board of appeals. The knowledge she gained and the contributions she made to facilitate the many projects during that time, prepared her for the position she now holds as trustee.

My decision to appoint Barbara as I started my transition in the village was well thought out.

I was looking for someone who had knowledge of village government, a person who had a strong work ethic, and someone who understood what residents appreciate and expect. A person whom I could trust, someone dedicated to help move the village in a positive direction and someone who would serve the residents in the village to the best of their ability.

Barbara was that person and has proven to be an asset. She has provided an independent, well thought out voice to our village board and is the candidate to help “Make a Difference” for you the residents of Williston Park.

Doreen and I have known Barbara for many years and are confident to ask for your support in helping her get elected.

We thank you for helping to get out the vote for Barbara Alagna on Tuesday, March 15, 2011.

Voting will take place at the American Legion on Willis Avenue from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m.
