The Americana Manhasset and Wheatley Plaza shopping center in Greenvale are teaming up this fall to raise funds and awareness for Crohn’s disease and colitis research.

In conjunction with the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America, the facilities are hosting the inaugural Gold Coast Take Steps Walk on Oct. 4.

Beginning at 9 a.m., participants will walk from the Americana to Wheatley Plaza in recognition of the 1.6 million Americans living with the illnesses, the event’s organizers said.

“We are extremely grateful to Americana Manhasset and Wheatley Plaza and to the surrounding communities for their generosity and support,” said Edda Ramsdell, executive director of Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America’s Long Island chapter, in a statement.

Registration for the walk is available through the event’s website at cctakesteps.org. Take Steps walks have raised more than $60 million nationwide toward Crohn’s and colitis research and patient services.

In a statement, North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth said the walk “is an excellent way to spend time with friends and family while raising money for Crohn’s and colitis research, education and support services.”

The event is slated to begin with a warm-up from Two Worlds Dance and Fitness, located within Wheatley Plaza.

“We understand the importance of good health and empathize with the people who suffer from [inflammatory bowel disease],” Two Worlds owner Dany Holstein said. “Our entire fitness team will be participating and we look forward to cheering on the walkers from start to finish.”
