Bluedevils end season with walk off

The Island Now

The New Hyde Park Bluedevils (14U) Team finished the summer season on Friday with a 3-2 walk off win over Skag Braves.

The Bluedevils were led by the complete game pitching by Kyle Cajigas, seven innings-(five hits, eight Ks, one BB).

The team was solid in the field behind Cajigas-Niko Rullo in center, Doug Obidienzo, (3B), John Hayes (SS) and Vincent Balletta at first base.

Zack Reifschneider made two of the biggest plays in the field to keep the score 2-0.

In the sixth inning with a runner on first, Reifschneider fired a strike from rightfield to Dylan Savarese at second to end the inning.

Again in the top of the seventh, a potential leadoff double was erased again from Reifschneider to Hayes to start the inning!

The comeback began in the sixth, Savarese led off with a walk and after one out stole second base and on the next pitch stole third. The catcher’s errant throw to third led Savarese to hurry home with the first Bluedevils run.

Then Brandon LaFroscia who had a solid summer season at the plate was walked.

Kyle Cajigas then delivered the biggest hit of the night, a line triple in the gap to right center field to bring home the tying run. The stage was set for the bottom of the seventh.

Anthony Millan who was solid all season as a catcher and centerfielder, led off the inning with a walk. Liam Gallagher after Millan stole second, delivered a single to right to put runners on first and third.

With Obidienzo at the plate, Gallagher and Millan executed a perfect delayed steal thus enabling Millan to score the winning run from third and the 3-2 victory!
