The Roslyn Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual menorah and Christmas tree lighting, complete with a seasonal sing-a-long, Tuesday evening at the Roslyn Clock Tower.

The event included blessings by Cantor Ofer Barnoy of Roslyn Heights’ Temple Beth Sholom and the Rev. Margaret Peckham of Trinity Episcopal Church.

“It brings together Roslyn Village, the Roslyn chamber and the community in a festive holiday celebration that everybody looks forward to,” said the chamber’s vice president of marketing and public relations, Barbara Kaplan.

About 30 people attended.

The chamber’s vice president, Lou Federico, served as the evening’s emcee. He said the songs, which included the Hebrew Hannukah song “Ma’oz Tzur,” the dreidel song and “Frosty the Snowman,” were his favorite part.

“It’s always fun to kick off the holiday season with the whole spirit of the holiday period, both Hannukah which has obviously already started and with the Christmas and New Year’s season quickly coming upon us,” he said.

It was a busy evening for the chamber, as the lighting was sandwiched between a ribbon cutting for Mixology, a new clothing store in the area, and the chamber’s holiday party.

“It was nice that we had these three things in a row so that we were able to get community involvement,” Kaplan said.

Her favorite part of the tree lighting?

“Seeing happy children,” Kaplan said.
