A 21-year-old from Manhasset was arrested at the University of Connecticut last Thursday on charges of assault and disorderly conduct, according to the Connecticut State Police.

The incident occurred at an April 13 house party where Shivam Mukherjee punched another member of his fraternity, according to the Journal Inquirer, a local publication in Connecticut.

Mukherjee broke the student’s jaw when he was standing outside at the 800-person party, the Journal Inquirer reported, citing the victim’s written statement to the police. The victim underwent a four-hour operation on his jaw at Hartford Hospital, the article reported.

Other students said that the incident was unprovoked. The victim, Brian Patterson, said he wants to press charges and is fearful of returning to campus, the article reported.

Patterson told police Mukherjee is dating his ex-girlfriend but that he does not know why he was violent, it said.

Mukherjee was arrested at approximately 11 a.m. and is scheduled to appear in court April 30.

Mukherjee left the incident uninjured, according to police. He was issued a $25,000 cash bond, according to a police summary.

He is scheduled to appear in court on April 30.
