A dance studio for soon-to-be newlyweds is set to open in Mineola following approval Wednesday from the Village Board.

Kyle Volkof runs the Dance Reverie studio in Forest Hills and plans to open a second facility at 75 E. Jericho Turnpike, he told trustees at a meeting Wednesday.

His studio will offer one-on-one private wedding dance lessons for couples about to me married, he said.

Volkof gets inquiries from couples in Nassau County, but they are generally reluctant to make the trip to Queens, he said.

Volkof said he signed a lease for the property at the corner of East Jericho Turnpike and Columbus Parkway, which has been vacant for two years.

The Village Board had questions about parking, hours of operation and potential noise.

Volkof said there is a seven-space lot for his use.He plans to operate from 5 to 9 p.m., Monday through Friday. The sound system should be about the size of a home stereo, he said.

“There is a need for a store there,” village Trustee Dennis Walsh said. “The need for a second location [for his studio] speaks to demand. There’s a multitude of things that could open there. I can’t think of anything less intrusive.”

Walsh encouraged Volkof to contact the Mineola Chamber of Commerce, the active local business group, because there are catering halls and other related businesses in the village.

Also on Wednesday, the Village Board voted to allow the mayor to appoint alternate members to the village Zoning Board of Appeals to ensure a quorum could be assembled if regular members are unable to attend a meeting.

Under this arrangement, “petitioners would have the opportunity to be heard without having to wait another month” for the next meeting, village Attorney John Gibbons said.

Alternates would serve one-year terms compared to the five-year terms for regular members.

Trustees also postponed discussion of Meta Burn Fitness’s application to establish an exercise and training center at 212 Station Plaza, adjacent to the Long Island Rail Road station, because no representative of the company attended the meeting.
