Veterans with disabilities will be allowed to park free at Manorhaven Beach Park and North Hempstead Beach Park, North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth, the town board and the town’s Veterans Advisory Committee announced.

Proposed in early June, the action was approved unanimously at the June 21 meeting.

The town also offers a discounted annual parking permit for $25 for all veterans at the facilities, compared with the $50 general rate for residents.

Veterans  will need to show their government-issued VA cards.

“The Town of North Hempstead, along with our Veterans Advisory Committee, is always looking for new ways to show our appreciation to our veterans who have done so much to defend our nation and protect our liberty and freedom,” Bosworth said. “By offering free parking for veterans with disabilities and discounted parking for all veterans, we hope that they will come out to enjoy a beautiful day at Manorhaven Beach Park and North Hempstead Beach Park.”

According to the town, there are roughly 1,200 veterans.

“This is just anther way that we are showing appreciation to our veterans who have done so much to defend our nation and protect our nation and protect our liberty and freedom,” Bosworth said.
