An elderly married couple were struck by a car while walking through a parking lot in Mineola last Wednesday afternoon.
Nassau County Police 3rd Squad detectives said an 89-year-old woman and her 88-year-old husband were walking through the parking lot of the 99-cent Paradise store at 328 East Jericho Turnpike at 2:19 p.m. on Nov. 21 when they were both struck by a 2007 Toyota 4Runner, driven by a 37-year-old man who was backing up.
Both victims were transported to a local hospital. The woman suffered severe head trauma and is listed in critical condition and the male victim was admitted with injuries to his hip and head.
The 4Runner was impounded for brake and safety checks, police said.
No criminality was involved in the incident according to police who said an investigation into the incident is continuing.
