First-ever ‘Taste of Hope’ gala set for Unitarian Universalist congregation in Manhasset

Culinary concoctions from more than a dozen Long Island chefs and eateries will be showcased next month during a fundraising gala at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Shelter Rock for the Hicksville-based social services non-profit CN Guidance & Counseling Services, Inc.

Called “Taste of Hope,” the Sept. 17 event is slated to offer food and beverage tastings, a raffle and silent auction, with all proceeds slated to benefit the organization.

The event will run from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the congregation’s location at 48 Shelter Rock Road in Manhasset. Tickets are $125 per person.

“Events like the Taste of Hope are critical to our organization’s ability to continue providing vital services and opportunities for people living with addiction and mental illness to recover and lead productive lives,” said Jeffrey Friedman, chief executive officer of CN Guidance & Counseling Services. “We are very grateful for the community’s support.”

CN Guidance & Counseling Services offers clinical treatment, rehabilitation, housing, social and support services as well as counseling and guidance to the families of people living with mental illness, developmental disabilities, addiction and chemical dependency. 

Louis Basso, president of the human resources outsourcing service provider Alcott HR, will be honored during the event.

“Taste of Hope’s” sponsors include Bethpage Federal Credit Union, the private insurance broker Cook Maran & Associates and the workplace law firm Jackson Lewis.

Chefs set to appear are Michael Ginor of Lola’s in Great Neck and his chef de cuisine Lenna Messina, former “MasterChef” contestant Jonathan Scinto and former “Top Chef” contestant and Montauk Yacht Club executive chef Ron Duprat. 

Participating eateries include Torta Fina Bake Shoppe and Patisserie of Commack and Babylon, Greek Street of Massapequa Park, Grasso’s of Cold Spring Harbor, Cooks Scratch Bakery and Kitchen of Northport, Duck Island Bread Company of Huntington, Farm to Table Catering by Filomena of Nesconset, FADO of Huntington and Pico Tequila Grill of Bay Shore.

Beverage companies Bai Brands and Essentia Water will also be on hand during the event.

Raffle and auction items include an Apple iPad, a VIP wine tasting for six at Martha Clara Vineyards in Riverhead, a seven-night beachfront stay in St. Lucia or Antigua and a photo print of Graham Nash, Steven Stills and David Crosby from the folk trio’s debut album autographed by photographer Henry Diltz.
