A Floral Park man was arrested in West Hempstead on Friday at 8:24 p.m. after allegedly driving impaired and fleeing police on foot once pulled over, according to Nassau County Police.

Both officers sustained minor injuries and were treated at an area hospital, according to police.

Anthony Grassi, 21, of Ward Street, was found to be operating his vehicle in an “impaired manner,” police said. Officers also found 84 small plastic bags of cocaine, a black scale and a container of peppery spray in the car, police said.

Officers tried to pull the car over when it was “observed failing to maintain its lane of travel,” police said. Officers stopped the vehicle on Hempstead Turnpike near the intersection of Broadway.

Grassi fled the scene on foot after exiting his vehicle, police said. Officers ran after him, causing them minor injuries, police said.

Grassi is charged with two counts of third degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, two counts of second degree assault,  two counts of vehicle traffic law violations and driving while impaired.

Judge Rhonda Fischer adjourned the case during Grassi’s arraignment on Saturday. He is held on bail of $100,000 bond or $50,000 cash.
