Folk-rock trio set to appear in Great Neck

The Island Now

Live entertainment is coming to Great Neck as part of The Great Neck Arts Center’s Gold Coast Acoustic Café.

Music from the 60s and 70s will be this weekend’s highlight, followed by an evening of comedy on Saturday, Oct. 19.

“The Gold Coast Acoustic Café brings the community live entertainment in an intimate setting right in Great Neck,” said Great Neck Arts Center Executive Director Regina Gil. “It is a perfect venue for friends and neighbors to share a fun evening without having to even leave Great Neck.”

Described as a high-energy Peter Paul and Mary or a co-ed Crosby, Stills and Nash, the group Gathering Time is a Long Island-based folk-rock trio that will soon have your toes tapping this weekend beginning at 8 p.m. Their remake of Peter Yarrow’s “Light One Candle” has been played from the United States to Israel’s Galilee plains, their 2008 CD “Songs of Hope and Freedom” won wide acceptance on radio stations nationwide, their second CD “Red Apples and Gold” rose to number five on the fold DJ charts, and their third CD will be released this month.

Tickets to the performance, at The Arts Center’s Doris Weinstein Theatre, are only $15 per person when purchased in advance or $20 at the door.

“An Evening With Jackie ‘The Joke Man’ Martling” will be the comedy show highlight on Oct. 19. The host of “Jackie’s Joke Hunt” on SiriusXM Radio and the former regular on the Howard Stern Show, “The Joke Man” stars in an evening of songs, stories and, or course, jokes. Tickets are $20 per person.

Door open for both shows at 7:30 p.m. for general admission. For further information about the shows and to purchase tickets, call 829-2570 or visit www.greatneckarts.org

Gold Coast Acoustic Café shows are produced by The Great Neck Arts Center and Love Revolution Org. and are sponsored, in part, by All Music, Inc.; Little Neck Beverage; Richland Management Co.; and Starbucks.
