More than 5,000 pounds of food were collected during the 2014 Manhasset Community Food Drive for donation to the Interfaith Nutrition Network, its organizer said Tuesday.

Richard Law, vice president of the Manhasset Rotary Club, said in an e-mail that twice as much food was donated this year than during the inaugural food drive last year.

In addition, $1,225 raised during the food drive will also go toward the Interfaith Nutrition Network, Law said.

The food drive ran from Nov. 1 through Nov. 21 at village halls, real estate offices, firehouses and markets throughout Manhasset and parts of Port Washington.

The drive was held in conjunction with the Manhasset High School Interact Club, also known as the Junior Rotarians, and the non-profit Neil’s Wheels.

“A special thanks to all the Manhasset community, especially the local villages, real estate offices, Port Washington Yacht Club and King Kullen for their support and enthusiasm in collecting food for the needy,” Law said.

Approximately 1,200 pounds of food was collected during the drive’s first weekend, Law said last month.

The Hempstead-based, non-profit Interfaith Nutrition Network was established in 1983 and provides food, housing and support services to the less fortunate.

The organization requested residents donate non-perishable foods, including stuffing, canned yams, cranberry sauce, canned fruit, canned vegetables, canned soup, canned gravy, boxed macaroni and cheese and boxed mashed potatoes.
