Frankel elected a trustee in F. Hill, incumbents keep seats elsewhere in Port

With the exception of one race in Flower Hill, two incumbent mayors and seven incumbent trustees in villages across the Port Washington area were re-elected on Tuesday.

Absent from this list is the Village of Manorhaven, which holds its elections in June.

PORT WASHINGTON NORTH

Mayor Robert Weitzner and Trustees Sherman Scheff and Matthew Kepke kept their seats, with each of the three men winning a two-year term. Weitzner received 260 votes, Scheff received 251 and Kepke received 240 votes.

The only nonincumbent candidate who petitioned and ran against Scheff and Kepke for a trustee seat was newcomer Stanley Gerard, who received 35 votes. Gerard was also written in as a mayor candidate and received three votes.

Also submitted as write-in candidates for mayor were Sam Bociocco, receiving two votes, and Matthew Maroney, who received one vote. The only write-in candidate for trustee was Renee Krocheck, who received one vote.

BAXTER ESTATES

Mayor Nora Haagenson, Deputy Mayor Charles Comer and Trustee Christopher Ficalora won  re-election to two-year terms.

Haagenson received 74 votes, Comer received 72 votes and Ficalora received 71 votes, with no write-in challengers named.

FLOWER HILL 

Trustee Frank Genese won a third term, Trustee Mary Jo Collins won her first full two-year term after serving the rest of Mayor Brian Herrington’s term as a trustee, and Trustee Claire Dorfman, who was appointed last November after the late Mayor Robert McNamara was elected a trustee, won a one-year term.

Financial professional and Flower Hill native Max Frankel, running on the Flower Hill Party line with the three incumbents, was elected to succeed retiring Trustee Jay Beber. He is the village’s first second-generation trustee in recent memory, with his mother Ann Frankel having served in the role in the 1990s.

“I’m happy to join the board, and for my three other trustees,” Frankel said in a phone interview. “It was a big win for the Flower Hill Party, and we’ll be glad to keep working to making the village a better place.”

In addition to the four registered candidates, four additional write-ins were given. Jing Sun received two votes, and Brad Schwartz, Geovanny Fernandez and Donald Trump each received one vote apiece.

Dorfman received 125 votes , Frankel received 124, Collins received 121, and Genese received 120.
