G.N. Library offers glimpse of Parisian art

For those who may not be able to afford a trip to Paris, the Great Neck Library is prepared to offer a glimpse of one of the city’s most beautiful attractions.

The library, as part of its “Brown Bag” series of cultural lectures, will sponsor a lecture called “Meet Me at the Musee d’Orsay in Paris” at 11 a.m. Feb. 25 at the Station Branch Library, located at 26 Great Neck Road.

The presentation will include a lecture and a slide show of the works within the museum and on the museum itself, said Debbie Feldman, library programming assistant.

The lecture will be conducted by Louise Cella Caruso, an art appraiser and lecturer, according to a release from the library.

Feldman said Caruso, who does art research and develops art shows, has offered this program at other locations outside the library system.

“She’s one of our regular people,” Feldman said. “She has several programs she’s done and that’s the one that’s most popular.”

The Musee d’Orsay is located on the banks of the Seine, near the Jardin du Tuileries, and features works by some of the world’s greatest artists, including Degas and Cezanne.

Once a train station that served the city of lights, it is now one of Paris’ most famous museums.

The release said coffee and tea will be served at the event.

Feldman said the lecture is the first “Brown Bag” program the library is offering.

“Since the Main Branch is being renovated so we’re having this at Station Branch,” Feldman said. “We’re trying new things in terms of programming.”

Feldman said she advises attendees to arrive early, as seating is limited, and calling ahead.
