Georgeann Polatov appointed as Roslyn Estates trustee

The Village of Roslyn Estates appointed Georgeann Polatov as a new trustee Tuesday evening, replacing Maryann DiStefano, who was appointed just one month ago.

DiStefano had filled a seat vacated by Allan Mendels in July when he moved out of the village.

The position remained empty until the end of the summer because no one was interested in filling it, said village Clerk Michael Tomicich.

DiStefano stepped down because she will not be in the state, Tomicich said.

Polatov has lived in the village for four and a half years, a place, she said, that “almost has a country feel.”

“When you’re here you feel you’re in your own enclave,” she said. “It’s just beautiful because of the trees.”

Members of the current board approached her to see if she would be interested in stepping up, she said.

“I’m living here almost five years, and it’s just a lovely community and it’s nice to know what’s going on and have a hand in making decisions,” Polatov said.

Serving as a trustee is an opportunity to enhance the village’s well-being, she said, though there are no particular issues she is eager to address.

Polatov and her husband have a glass, mirror and custom shower door business, but she said she is semi-retired, which gives her the opportunity to spend time with her grandchildren.
