A 20-year-old Great Neck man died after being thrown from the hood of a car on Aug. 12 in Manhasset, following a dispute with Christian Arevalo, 19, of 150 Manor Drive, Great Neck, police said.

Detectives said that Arevalo and the victim, who police declined to identify, got into a dispute that soon became physical. Arevalo then entered his mother’s 2013 Nissan Altima and drove into Manhasset, with the victim clinging to the hood, police said.

After a short time driving, police said that the car got into an accident with a 2017 Cadillac Sedan on Cumberland Avenue and collided with a curb. The impact threw the victim off the vehicle and his head struck the pavement.

The victim suffered head, neck and spine injuries, police said. The victim was ultimately pronounced dead by hospital staff at 12:39 a.m. on Aug. 12, police said.

The accident occurred around 8:43 p.m, police said.

Police said that further investigation found Arevalo, the defendant, to be responsible for an earlier Great Neck robbery in July 17 and violating a court order of protection on Tuesday, May 5, also in Great Neck.

A police spokesman declined to comment further on those two prior cases.

Arevalo is charged with second degree manslaughter, second degree robbery, first degree criminal contempt, second degree reckless endangerment and third degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

He was arraigned on Sunday, Aug. 13, at the First District Court in Hempstead.
