Louise Sobin won re-election to the Shelter Rock Public Library board Tuesday night, defeating challenger Swatanter Polce.

“I’m very grateful to the community for my re-election,” Sobin said. “I grew up in this neighborhood and I’ve been a member of the library since it was founded.”

Sobin defeated Polce 51 to 14.

Polce served as a member of the teen advisory board from 2004 to 2010.

Sobin has been a member of the board since 1997, and has since been named vice president of the board responsible for public relations and long-range planning. She also served as a trustee for the Nassau Library System from 2002 to 2012.

Sobin said she is looking forward to continuing to work with patrons and community members.

“I’ve got more to contribute and there’s planning to be done,” Sobin said.

The trustees’ duties include managing the library, handling personnel issues and ensuring that the building is maintained.
