Junior Wildcats claw Coaches squad

The Island Now

New Hyde Park Wildcats Top Soccer would like to warmly welcome newcomer Derek Haenel.

In the Juniors match, Demond Person, Brandon and Brian Cisneros, David Cheung, Desmond O’Callaghan, Andrew Faller, and Shamus McWeeney played outstanding soccer on this beautiful spring day.  Most of the athletes scored at least two goals while newcomer Derek Haenel, who played for the Coaches, scored the only goal for the coaches.

David Cheung had a hat trick and was a speedster on the field.  Brandon and Brian Cisneros showed off their improved skill work.  All players seemed happy to beat Coach Mary Jo who had a terrible time as keeper and the athletes took advantage of her poor goaltending.  Andrew Faller and Shamus McWeeney scored their one goal and were really excited that they put it in the net.  The Juniors showed off their sportsmanship while playing the game and cheered for everyone who scored.

The Intermediates played quite a game.  The defense from both teams kept scoring to a minimum with Josh Hom and Chris Menendez sharing the Green team goalie responsibilities.  Analise Jurena and Matthew Lausev were dynamite in goal for the Red team.

The Red team’s Demetri Georgedakis and Daniel Menendez played strong defense while midfielders Sophocles Gianakis and Petros D’Amico bombarded the Green team’s goal with shots.  Josh Hom finally put the ball in the back of the net and had the only goal for the Red team.

For the Green team, Chris Cooney scored the lone goal and although Sebastian Pinto had many opportunities to score, it wasn’t meant to be.  Green team’s defense of Ashlyn Jurena and Nicolas Krieger was too strong for the Red team.   Today’s game was enjoyable to watch and reminiscent of a well-played professional soccer match.  The players kept scoring low, showed off excellent footwork, and demonstrated great passing skills.

The skill set for the Seniors improve at every practice and today they played a very competitive match.  Sebastian Garcia and Sebastian Gonzalez had a strong game for the Green team.  Andrea Matteo and Stefani Egre scored for the Green team, with assists from Charlie Hinz and Debbie Chin.

The Red team’s scoring came from Timothy Roth who was unstoppable and scored all three goals for the Red team.  As midfielders, Mary Glass, Billy Russo, and Adam Strominger were instrumental in the flow of the game for the Red team.  All the Seniors came together and played well and kept the score close.
