LIJ appoints new chief administrators

The North Shore-LIJ Health System today last week the appointments of  Dr. David Battinelli as its new chief medical officer, and Dr. Andrew Yacht as chief academic officer.

Battinelli, who succeeds Dr. Jeremy Boal, as senior vice president and chief medical officer, has served as senior vice president and chief academic officer for the past six years. 

During that time, he revamped the health system’s 120 medical residency and fellowship programs, which involve more than 1,500 clinicians.  

As dean of education, he also played an integral role in establishing the Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine – a role that he will continue in addition to his new role of chief medical officer. 

A board-certified internist, Battinelli came to North Shore-LIJ in 2007 from Boston Medical Center, where he served as vice chair for education, program director of its internal medicine residency program, and professor of medicine at the Boston University School of Medicine. He was also an active staff physician at BMC and the Boston Veterans Administration.  

He earned his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry in Newark, N.J.

acht succeeds Dr. Battinelli as chief academic officer. 

He previously served as associate dean of graduate medical education and designated institutional officer at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan.   

Prior to that, he was vice chair of medicine, program director of the internal medicine program and chief of the section of general internal medicine at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn.  

He received his medical degree from SUNY Downstate Medical School in Brooklyn and completed his training at Boston University.
