A Hempstead man was arrested in Mineola last Friday in connection with a fatal drug overdose, Nassau County police said.

Nassau County cops and authorities with the Long Island Heroin Task Force, a collaborative drug enforcement effort of Nassau and Suffolk counties, arrested Wesley Coles, 24, after an investigation into the overdose, police said.

Coles had heroin and cocaine on him when he was arrested in Mineola at 4:45 p.m. last Friday, a police spokesman said.

The spokesman could not say what Coles’ role was in the overdose or when it occurred.

Coles has been charged with two counts of third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and three counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, according to online court records. All five charges are felonies.

Coles was arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Hempstead and is due back in court Tuesday. It is not clear whether he has a defense attorney yet.
